Alice Walker endorses Barack Obama

March 31, 2008

Alice Walker
Famed literary Goddess and author of “The Color Purple” is throwing her support towards Barack Obama. In a sweeping, and beautifully written statement published to TheRoot.com Alice Walker explains her stance with this quote;

When I have supported white people, men and women, it was because I thought them the best possible people to do whatever the job required. Nothing else would have occurred to me. If Obama were in any sense mediocre, he would be forgotten by now. He is, in fact, a remarkable human being, not perfect but humanly stunning, like King was and like Mandela is. We look at him, as we looked at them, and are glad to be of our species. He is the change America has been trying desperately and for centuries to hide, ignore, kill. The change America must have if we are to convince the rest of the world that we care about people other than our (white) selves

  1. “And the notion that somehow it’s cute or amusing, or a useful diversion, I think, is something that all of us have to recognize is just not the case. We all have First Amendment rights. And I am a constitutional lawyer and strongly believe in free speech, but as a culture, we really have to do some soul-searching to think about what kind of toxic information are we feeding our kids,”

  2. Many blessings to Ms. Alice Walker for speaking her mind as eloquently as she did in endorsement of Senator Barack Obama. I too support him and believe he is truly what America needs and deserves in a President. He can unify this country and has begun to do so unlike any other candidate in my time. He has inspired and motivated people of all races, genders, political parties and financial levels. He has created a great movement, a movement that among other things, gives us hope for change and hope for a better world for everyone. For the first time ever, I imagine that this is what my parents and grandparents felt when they listened to Kennedy and Dr. King. Although I began voting when I was 18 years old and have voted in every election since that time, but only now have I been so politically motivated and active in the elections. I voted in the primary election in my state for the first time ever this year. I not only feel that I have a right and duty to vote now…but for the first time…I honestly feel that I have a reason to vote! Thank you Senator Barack Obama!

  3. Wish I could vote, lol don’t live in America…hehe
