Nas single leaked- “Be a N***** Too”

April 22, 2008

After months of speculation, controversy and conversations the first leak from Nas’s new Album “Nigger” is out.
The song is called “Be a Nigger too”. I said I was going to wait until I heard it to make a judgment, but I’m still not so sure about this.
Take a listen.
• Disclaimer- if you are squimish about bad language, racial slurs, derogatory speech, poor grammar etc. do yourself and favor and do not press play!! Just don’t! At the same time I’d prefer that you listen to it before you post your opinion. It just makes sense that way.

What say you? Is this the first of what could be a revolutionary, genius work of controversial musical art. Or just another rap song that’s using the N-word as a gimmick to get more press??

Speak on it!

  1. “Controversial” is definitely the word to describe Nas.
Beyond the obsessive use of the “N-word” in this track, a lot of the things he says are true and it’s a really good critique on black culture and lifestyle (not to sound cliche, but I really think it is. It’s a bit ironic in a way).
But despite all this, I’m not feeling this song. First, I think there is always a way to get your point across without using a bunch of profanity. In fact, I always respect artists more because they aren’t trying to hide behind obscene words to get their point across. I’m not trying to be all “anti-free speech” or anything, but there are definitely better ways to express yourself and be just as poetic and get impactful. Second, I feel like Nas just does stuff like this to cause hype. It’s that whole mentality–it doesn’t really matter if people are saying good or bad things about you, as long as they’re talking about you period…right?

  2. To peep the 80s reference Nas makes in the song, check this out…
