Ursher’s Mom may have to come out of Retirement

July 7, 2008

I hope you had a fabulous weeked!!! I had a glorious food filled break but now it’s time to get back to work. Apparently it’s time to Ursher’s Mom-ager to do the same.

Word around the word around is that Usher is thinking of re-hiring his mother and long time manager, Jonetta Patton. He “removed her from her duties” claiming he was offering her the opportunity to “retire.” Of course others were reporting that he fired her because she and didn’t like wifey Tameka Foster.
In either scenario, Usher hired the famed Benny Medina to guide his career(Benny’s clients include Mariah Carey and Tyra Banks just to name a few) but given the somewhat lukewarm reception to his latest CD “Here I Stand” It appears that he’s looking for Mama Patton to sprinkle her management magic.

But Usher is said to have been disappointed that it sold 433,000 in its first week, compared with his last CD, 2004’s “Confessions,” which had sales of 1.1 million in its first seven days.

And i’m sure the lackluster ratings of the BET Awards (which he opened) didn’t make him feel any better either.

I really like Usher as an Artist. I’ve seen him on tour several times and I respect his art, his voice and his talent, I even respect the fact that the man is willing to go above and beyond in defending his wife to the public even if that meant alienating some of his fans. BUT there are some key elements missing from this; “Here I Stand” is an excellent CD (The title track will get played at my wedding, whenever that happens) but it’s just not as good as “Confessions” sorry but it’s true.

Why you ask?? because “Confessions” was fueled by it’s own controversy, the claim that was a semi-autobiographical album about his cheating on his much loved ex and TLC member Chili. People were buying it just to see what he was going to say. Not so much with this album that obviously reflects his new status of happy husband and father, it’s pretty controversy free.

Secondly “Love in this Club” is a hot song but it wasn’t hot enough for a the first single from someone who hasn’t released a CD in 4 years. It’s good, just not good enough, it’s not a “Yeah”.

And lastly unlike most Usher fans I’m glad he married is child’s mother, I’m glad he loves her enough to want to defend her and stick up for her. Whether or not I (or anyone else) approves of how they started dating is irrelevant what matters is that they’re together for their baby now. That being said, Usher you cannot make people like her! You just can’t. Male entertainers of all ages and races have a long and sorted history of female fans hating on their wives. Get over it, it’s not just you. Hire some extra security and stop answering back everytime a fan calls her ugly. I know it’s hard but you’re just fanning the fire. Just make undeniably good music and folks will forget eventually forget about how you cheated on our beloved Chili with your current wife. But you cannot convince the world to love her as much as you do.
