WHY? Someone Tell me why they thought this was a good idea??
I know it’s supposed to be satire. They claim it is a depiction of the “polticizing fear”.
The magazine explains at the start of its news release previewing the issue: “On the cover of the July 21, 2008, issue of the The New Yorker, in ‘The Politics of Fear,’ artist Barry Blitt satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.”
Again How is this a good idea?? How is this not just feeding the beast of sensationalism?! I just want to know. I promise you I’m more confused then angry…

ok…so every time Barbra on “the view” says to whoope goldberg “WHat?! Your black?” I want to hit her. I get it, she is making a satire over racism. But now it’s just stupid. So I let it go…
THIS same jab is un let-go-able. It wont work because in the previous example, no one expects a woman who is not blind to sit across from a black woman and ask “what?! you are black?!” hahaha…we get it. it’s obvious. The cover is not OBVIOUS because it DOES represent the very real view some people have of the Obama family. And they are just gonna jump up and down and go “SEE! Even the liberals agree!”
Now what would have been a great cover is cartoon obama in a turban sitting next to cartoon bill Clinton getting his thang sucked, next to cartoon hillary shooting steroids, next to cartoon bush dousing himself in oil and blood….all laughing the way only satirical cartoon characters can. then we can use that image to talk about the ridiculousness of media.

I understand what they claim they are trying to say. But it is poorly executed. There should have been a headline or something to show the perspective IMO because at first glance it looks more like an attack then a defense!
