Jesus Take the Wheel-Fighting off Discouragement During Discouraging Times

May 12, 2008

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all the Sugar Mama’s reading this blog! I failed to post this yesterday because I was spending the day with my own Mommy and Grandmother (who asked me not to ‘write on that computer’ as part of her gift)

So this blog was intended to be a “one stop shop”; a voice for those of us who normally do not get a lot of media coverage on issues we care about, or are used to hearing about the news that effects us months later. Now as I constantly seek to carry out the goals of this blog, I spend a lot of time scouring the news, small town news, local news, entertainment news, big major news sources, etc. A lot of the time it’s not all good. There’s only so much you can read about the economy falling apart, the election, police shootings, beating, abuse, discrimination, rape, and all out ignorance before you really start to feel the weight.

Things that Disturb my Spirit

May 1, 2008

I’ve been a little “inconegro” the past few days and in a serious rut. I apologize for the lack of posts.

I felt like sharing some things that disturbed my spirit this week. You may laugh or hang your head in shame, but it is what it is.

Black Pastors Protest Planned Parenthood (Try Saying that 3 time fast…)

April 28, 2008

Black religious and Republican leaders are staging a revolt against Planned Parenthood, the one stop abortions shop. No it’s not just the normal Pro-life vs. Pro choice debate. These people are claiming that Planned Parenthood takes donations in the name of targeting black babies. Rumors, legend and theories have been swirling for years that the Founder of Planned Parenthood is a racist who created the organization with the purpose of thinning out the black population. Source

Ch-Ch-Changes!!

April 23, 2008

Hey Sugar Babies!
As you can see The Brown Sugar Pages has a new look. Hopefully this will be easier to read and see. I am currently struggling with learning CSS so that I can truly customize the blog, but until I get it, I hope this will do.

If you’re good with CSS or you’re interested in designing a new custom header for the current theme, holla at ya girl!

Happy Earth Day!!

April 22, 2008

Happy Planet Day my Eco-Friendly Sugar Babies! God has blessed us with a beautiful world and it’s our job to take care of it. Here are some tips to protect our planet from the EPA
Tips about saving energy For example, reduce your carbon footprint! Use public transportation, carpool, walk, or bike whenever possible to avoid using your car.

Tips about using water efficiently - buy water-efficient fixtures and products. The WaterSense label helps shoppers identify water efficient products and programs.

Tips to Reduce / Reuse / Recycle - allow grass clippings to stay on the lawn, instead of bagging them. The cut grass will decompose and return to the soil naturally.

Tips for making environmentally protective choices- during hot weather, don’t top off your gas tank. Even a small gas spill adds to air pollution and wastes fuel

The real Cause for the Earthquake.

April 18, 2008

As most of you know there was a 5.2 earthquake in Illinois of all places. People all the way in Niceville Fl, felt a tremor, but it seems that there was no major injuries and only minor damage, Thank the Lord! My heart is with the people affected by the quake. I pray that all is well.

Now I want to prepare you, no not just people in the quake but anyone who’s going to be around an old person, a conspiracy theorist, or a person with what I call “conversational paranoia,” particularly the religious type. It is highly strange for an earthquake to take place in Illinois, so I’m going to warn you now, that people are going to asking where that “came” from. IF you plan on going to the hair salon, barbershop, Local Park or anywhere else that black folks like to get together and “chew the fat” be prepared to talk about who really caused this act of nature…Oprah.

In Honor of Dr. King

April 5, 2008

In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I wanted to post one of his speeches. I hadn’t heard this until recently. It doesn’t have the catch phrases like his more popular “I have a dream” but it’s definitely a great and meaningful speech. Read the rest of this entry
