Jesus Take the Wheel-Fighting off Discouragement During Discouraging Times

May 12, 2008

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all the Sugar Mama’s reading this blog! I failed to post this yesterday because I was spending the day with my own Mommy and Grandmother (who asked me not to ‘write on that computer’ as part of her gift)

So this blog was intended to be a “one stop shop”; a voice for those of us who normally do not get a lot of media coverage on issues we care about, or are used to hearing about the news that effects us months later. Now as I constantly seek to carry out the goals of this blog, I spend a lot of time scouring the news, small town news, local news, entertainment news, big major news sources, etc. A lot of the time it’s not all good. There’s only so much you can read about the economy falling apart, the election, police shootings, beating, abuse, discrimination, rape, and all out ignorance before you really start to feel the weight.

BLACK WOMEN MATTER!!!- NYPD neglect leads to Lawsuit

May 8, 2008

The last time I read something this disturbing was the Dunbar Village case. When she went missing, her mother practically begged NYPD to search, call a press conference, investigate, and look for the daughter. Instead she got this response.

Who in the Hell Left the Gate open- Pat Buchanan edition

March 23, 2008

Pat Buchanan felt the need to mouth-off and post a rebuttal on Obama’s speech about race. I am sickened by some of the garbage this man has to say… like this little jewel of racial harmony:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Black and Mad!

March 20, 2008

I read this in my local daily paper (TBT), and I thought it was an excellent piece. It originally ran in the LA Times, But I found it online on the Baltimore Sun Newpaper website. Here it is

Black and mad
The controversy over Obama’s pastor reflects white fear of African-American anger
By Erin Aubry Kaplan
March 20, 2008

I’m mad. Let me qualify that - I’m black and mad.

The mad I’m talking about I inherited from generations of black people before me. I learned early in life that this mad is not curable (not yet) but that I could manage it. But sometimes I get flare-ups of anger that defy management.
