August 7, 2008

While the Rest of us were laughing at Paris Hilton’s response to the McCain ad and shocked that her energy plan is better than both McCain and Obama’s. Actor (and estranged father of Angelina Jolie) Jon Voight decided to write an Anti- Obama Op-Ed for the Washington Post, and it’s not pretty

Hey Fellas!!! Are you watching CNN’s Black in America??-Conversation Starter

July 24, 2008

I’ve already given my take on CNN’s Black in America “Black Women and Families,” and tonight they’re tackling “Black Men in America” and since I’m NOT a male, I’d really like to hear from men! What do you think about CNN’s take on the black male experience? Did they get it right? Do you feel fairly portrayed? What did they leave out?? was there something they could have done better? Did you like it, love it, hate it, or despise it??
Feel free to “have at it” brothas!!!!

Scene from the Color Purple- Oprah Winfrey as Sofia

Scene from the Color Purple- Oprah Winfrey as Sofia

Lately I’ve been thinking about how much I Love “the Color Purple”. The Book, the film and recently the musical are all powerful portrayals of the struggles of what it meant to be a double minority in a poor, racist, and sexist society. I am most familiar with the movie rendition, and thanks to the magic of TV One (shout out to Cathy Hughes) I got a replay of it this weekend and fell in love with it again.

Conversation Starter- Dead Wrong?

July 9, 2008

The recent death of North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms, has had a lot of people talking. Particularly conservative/Republican leaders about the man and his legacy.

President Bush Said:

Throughout his long public career, Senator Jesse Helms was a tireless advocate for the people of North Carolina, a stalwart defender of limited government and free enterprise, a fearless defender of a culture of life, and an unwavering champion of those struggling for liberty…Jesse Helms was a kind, decent, and humble man and a passionate defender of what he called “the Miracle of America.” So it is fitting that this great patriot left us on the Fourth of July. Jesus Take the Wheel-Fighting off Discouragement During Discouraging Times

May 12, 2008

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all the Sugar Mama’s reading this blog! I failed to post this yesterday because I was spending the day with my own Mommy and Grandmother (who asked me not to ‘write on that computer’ as part of her gift)

So this blog was intended to be a “one stop shop”; a voice for those of us who normally do not get a lot of media coverage on issues we care about, or are used to hearing about the news that effects us months later. Now as I constantly seek to carry out the goals of this blog, I spend a lot of time scouring the news, small town news, local news, entertainment news, big major news sources, etc. A lot of the time it’s not all good. There’s only so much you can read about the economy falling apart, the election, police shootings, beating, abuse, discrimination, rape, and all out ignorance before you really start to feel the weight.
